Plenty of red herrings and and blind alleys to contend with, so the wrap up is actually suspenseful. Very good police procedural. No one has any idea who he is or where he is from. None of which couldn’t have been relayed over the phone and the whole exchange seems designed to provoke Imanishi or the reader into beating the guy to death with a rock.
